Mamie is Movin' on Up!
A long-time Black Pine supporter has issued a challenge to help establish a fund to cover the costs of Mamie's relocation and ongoing needs. With every new arrival, the Sanctuary's operating costs go up. You can donate now and designate your gift for "Mamie" or the "Black Bear Fund" and every dollar will be matched, up to $5,000!
Thanks to a collaboration with our friends and colleagues at Outreach for Animals, we are happy to be providing "Mamie", a 22-year-old female black bear, a new lease on the REST of her life at Black Pine Animal Sanctuary.
Mamie is expected to arrive in mid-February 2013. She has spent most of her life in a corn crib (photo at right) in the yard of a private home in southern Ohio. When her male mate passed away from a long-term illness, leaving her alone, her owner decided it was time for her to move on to be with other bears. New laws that went into affect in Ohio in 2012 also influenced the owner's decision to act.
